　　　　　　　　「Mizunoya Kutani」 　　　　

The Ko Kutani 【“Old”Kutani】 porceclain ware, which was characterized by its bold design and heavy grandeur color, was born in the middle of 17th Century during the Tokugawa period. The Ko Kutani, after the birth, could flourish only for several decades and suddenly, for unknown reason, disappeared. And nowadays its original products can be see rarely in the market. Ko Kutani, with its mighty features such as painting style or color designing, deeply fascinated Mr. and Mrs. Maekawa in their works of art. After learning and acquiring the unique spirit and delicate technique of Ko Kutani porcelain painting at Kaga, they decided to establish a studio named 【Mizunoya Kutani】, so as to recreate this traditional porcelain in their original art works.
Green・yellow・purple and dark blue are the basic 4 colors of traditional Kutani Art. Maekawa couples dare to make use of the "white" colors as one as one of the basic elements. The "white" is not intended for just empty space in their art but now constitutes one of their most essential and valuable elements. They have successfully and magnificently made "old Kutani" into the contemporal "New Kutani" by 【Mizunoya Kutani】way. In additin to their first series' motif taken from "Natural Visa" and "Still Life", the second series "Composition of two Kanji-ideograph" is another original work desighed by 【Mizunoya Kutani】and they would like to continue the idea of the third series "The innocent kids" and "The figure". And their new works have just begun to bloom on the porcelain bottles of the same form as "old Kutani".
